Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf. Cognition, the company behind Devin, renamed the editor on 2 June 2026 through an over-the-air update. According to Devin’s FAQ it is the same IDE with the same features, nothing was removed, and existing plans, pricing, extensions and settings carried over automatically.
What changed is the centre of gravity. The Agent Command Center is now the default surface: a Kanban view for managing every local and cloud agent, with Spaces that group sessions, pull requests, files and context so agents can share it. Cascade has been succeeded by Devin Local as the main local agent, with the legacy Cascade agent kept for a transition period, while Devin Cloud is the autonomous agent that works on its own cloud machine, which is the handoff that set Windsurf apart. The editor also supports the open Agent Client Protocol, so other agents such as Codex, Claude Agent and OpenCode can run inside it too.
Pricing is unchanged from Windsurf’s: a free tier with unlimited Tab completions and inline edits but only a light agent quota, Pro at $20 a month, Max at $200, and Teams at $80 a month plus $40 for each developer seat, with custom Enterprise plans. If all you want is fast, hands-on AI typing in the editor you already use, GitHub Copilot or Cursor may suit you better. The JetBrains plugin is now in maintenance mode, and Devin recommends using Devin over ACP there instead.
Verdict: still a strong choice if you want an agent-first editor, and now one of the more open ones, because it can host other vendors’ agents. Expect older guides and videos to describe Cascade and the Windsurf name.
